Taven Naïlo walked out into a peaceful sandy area. He thought this would be a perfect place to discover his true powers. He had to avenge his fallen comrade, Teijin. The memories of the day Teijin died still haunt Taven, he has to excel in the ways of wind chakra to perfect Teijin’s style and to truly remember him. Taven closed his eyes and sat down on the warm sand. He felt the warmth rush from the sand onto his skin. Taven smiled and enjoyed the warmth from the sun and sand. Taven started to focus on just his breathing, he wanted to perfect this first because it was an important part of physical combat.

The breathing practice now underway Taven decided to focus his latent wind chakra around his body. He noticed nothing was happen and this slightly frustrated Taven. He could not afford to grow irritated, that would throw off his concentration and focus on his breathing and chakra. So he simple replaced his breath to be even and slow as his chakra began to flow more evenly throughout his body. He could feel the chakra, he knew it wanted to be used and he wanted to use it. Taven felt like he was lighter somehow, like he had released some sort of force that had been on him before.

Taven, while still focusing, withdrew a piece of paper from his kunai pouch and he set it on the ground in front of him. He opened his eyes slowly and focused on keeping his focus while his eyes were open, making his concentration waiver. Taven focused his sight onto the paper. He saw an insect scurry by the paper and grew astray from his primary target, the paper. He gave himself a mental lashing for this lack of dedication to his comrade. Do you not care about Teijin at all? Get your focus back Taven! .

Taven locked his eyes back onto the piece of paper and had a deathly focus on the paper; he imagined the paper as a foe, someone who had killed Teijin. This was again not a wise idea as he lost focus in his anger. Taven decided perhaps he should just focus strictly on the paper, as being a paper and nothing more. Taven closed his eyes again quite frustrated he would have to relax with breathing once again. Taven could not understand why after so many years the thought still haunted him to the core and made him so angry, anger is not the way to live a life.

His focus rekindled and his anger melted away Taven opened his eyes to the paper once again. Taven held out his left hand and held the paper in it. As he did this a small gust of wind blew sand into Taven’s face, automatic reaction forced his eyes closed before he could even tell them to. The desert was an interesting place. Taven opened his eyes when the gust died down and he saw the paper was cut slightly from the wind and sand.

That’s it, Taven thought. If he could cut the paper with his chakra surely that’d be the first step. Taven focused wind chakra into his hand and began to flow the chakra into the paper. He saw the paper tear, but only on its left side. Taven wanted it to be perfect and right down the middle. He saw this was to be no easy task and gave a disgruntled sigh. He tried once again but only managed to cut the right side. He had to focus his chakra precisely down the middle. But how?

Taven concentrated his chakra really hard to test this new theory and he saw he had cut the left side. He focused very little and saw he would cut the right side. He found this interesting; he now had a way to determine his focus as too easy or too hard. He gave a little less chakra into the paper and saw the cut moved over towards the centre. He did this again and saw again it was closer.

Taven did this one final time and saw the paper shred down the dead centre. Taven almost jumped for joy at this but decided he should keep his focus. He wished to try once again to determine it was no fluke and was done by his talents. He reached into his kunai pouch and pulled out another piece of paper and did the same amount of focus. To his delight the paper cut down the centre.

Taven stood up feeling like he had just climbed to the top of the shinobi world and become the best in the world. He knew he was far from finished his training and he now decided to focus on training his wind chakra to cut larger things. He decided to use the sand as his prime target. He put his hands to the warm sand and focused chakra to both of his hands. He knew this was going to be harder as it was much bigger and could resist being pulled apart. He focused a good amount of chakra but could not manage to even see a small budge in the sand.

Taven knew he would have to use all his chakra to do this, which frightened him a fair bit. He focused every ounce of his chakra into the sand as he saw it split open a very small amount. SUCCESS Taven thought. He knew he had just pushed some sand away from the other area. He had managed to do it, but he needed to make it bigger. He would need every bit of chakra he had, he wasted a lot on the initial paper training. He sat down in the sand and pulled some fruit from his pack as he sat there eating it.

Taven felt some juice from his apple trickle down his jaw. He reached up and wiped it away with his hand. ‘I love the sand village. It holds such beauty and peace; I can’t imagine living anywhere else.’ Taven was proud to be a citizen of Sunagakure. He was also fond of the wind country for its beautiful sand terrain. Many people would disagree that sand is beautiful but Taven wasn’t the typical person.

He once again decided he should continue on his training, and so he felt his chakra was regenerated he pressed his hands to the sand again. He leaked his chakra to his hands and pulsated it out splitting the sand once again. He would try splitting it down the middle only brief amounts first to increase his chakra control and his chakra supply. After several times he was once again out of chakra and decided he would put up some cloth to protect him from the sun. He dug into his backpack and withdrew some large sticks and a large piece of cloth.

Taven stabbed the sticks into the sand and then enforced each stick so they would not fall over. He then draped the cloth over the sticks to make a patch of shade on the sand. He lay underneath the cloth and gave a brief sigh as he decided to take a nap to regenerate his chakra once again. He drifted to a soft and light sleep the heat was still incredible, he was comfortable, but not at the same time. When he awoke he was drenched in sweat, he thought this looked severely unattractive and stepped out into the sun again.

He put his hands to the sand and focused all of his chakra to his hands. He slammed it out at even concentrated paces. The sand split apart in front of him making a small gorge in the sand. It was quick to fill itself in but Taven was very impressed that he had managed to cut the sand so deep and far. He smiled as he felt his body go numb from a large overdose of chakra consumption. He wondered if he was going to die. He thought to himself . This was an idiotic idea, why would you come out here alone? Are you asking to end up like Teijin? Taven felt this mental blow and knew he could not give up.

Taven fought with every bit of strength he could muster just to stand up. He had to; if he gave up he’d be like a baked potato. He would fry in the sun like an egg. He struggled to at least pull himself over to the shade he had made. If he could do that at the very least he would be happy. He would live, and he would not let his comrade’s memory die in vain.

Taven pulled his arm, but just moving his arm took a large amount of focus. His body felt like it weighed a ton at the least. His arms had a large sum of trouble in moving him. He kept on pulling himself; he felt his head enter the shade. This made him want to stop but he had to get the rest of his body under it. He continued to pull. He finally managed to enter the shade before he felt his vision become blurry and faded.

He awoke a few hours later the sun had set and he felt incredibly sore. Night was beginning to fall which meant Taven would soon become freezing. This was something the desert did to keep people away; it froze you at night and boiled you at day. Taven had to finish his training quickly. He pulled out a kunai and focused his chakra on it. He felt a small layer of his chakra coat the tip of the kunai making it sharper and more deadly. He threw the kunai at the sticks holding up his “fortress” and saw the kunai cut into the wood instead of just stabbing lightly into it. It dug deep into the wood.

Taven took another kunai out and focused chakra around it. He made it longer as he swung the kunai and saw that he could extend its reach with the wind focused around it. He sat down with the kunai tip facing into the ground. He focused his chakra around the kunai tip and saw that he could move the sand out of the kuani’s path. He then pulsated the wind chakra and saw that it could cut the ground like Taven had done before.

Taven focused chakra around the tip again and again experimenting with different things he could do with it. He found he could drill things, cut things, pierce things easily, move things out of the way and even make light things move faster. Taven felt like he was almost there. He had to make it a little longer. He knew he had not fully mastered his element but he was close to it. He had to try a few more things that Teijin had shown him back in the old days.

Taven wondered what else his chakra abilities could do but decided to take another rest; it had been hours since he had eaten anything, which moderately concerned Corey. He took out a few more pieces of fruit and some water. He peels the skin of an orange off and began to eat the citric fruit. He loved oranges the most of all fruits. They tasted so delicious and were very high in vitamins. He threw another piece of the fruit into his mouth and ate it as he gave a contented smile at the tastiness.

When he was done with the fruit he grasped onto another apple and took a crunching bite into the apple. As he was doing this he thought of things to do with his chakra. He wanted to be able to lift himself with the wind in time. He would practice with lighter things of course, but he was determined to make this his final objective. He would then be strongly content and satisfied with his mastery of the wind element. He drank from the bottle of water deeply in concentration yet again.

I wonder if it is possible to lift myself with the wind. I certainly wish to try it. If I can muster enough chakra first that is. I should begin with weapons as they would provide sufficient help in the battlefield. I can just imagine myself lifting up a barrage of shurikan and launching them at my foe. Taven was happily enjoying the scenario in his head as he munched on the crisp sweet and juicy apple.

Taven yawned as he knew his body was growing more mentally tired with every passing second. He had to sleep again, or he would begin to lose his focus and control of his chakra. He rolled towards the shaded area and bunched up some of his spare clothes and put them beneath his head to act as a pillow. He closed his eyes and soon fell asleep. His dream was something he wished he didn’t have to relive again and again.

{Past – RP motivation to continue}

It was an early morning in the deserts of Suna. The young shinobi team had to obtain a scroll, while avoiding the many traps and natural hazards the desert would throw at them. They also had to deal with the deadly shinobi they were being pitted against. The last team to fully finish this mission without casualties was the legendary sand siblings, Gaara, Kankuro and Temari. The sun was heavy and heated on this day and held down a strong concentration on Teijin, Taven and Riza.

“Come on Team we can do this, for sand, for each other and for sensei!” Teijin was a strongly determined shinobi and Taven admired his natural charismatic abilities. Riza seemed to be fearless as well and Taven admired both of them feeling like he was not worthy to be on their team.

Riza saw Taven’s glum look as she stated cheerfully in her sweet and rather euphoric voice “Taven, cheer up. We can do this easily you just have to believe.” She was so sweet, how could any human, especially a kunoichi be that sweet after doing what they do? Taven pondered this and hoped in time he would find the answer.

The team hasted their approach as they entered a dense cave they were to be assigned to go. They were careful to watch where they stepped and Riza quickly drew her emerald encrusted blade Zetsu. Teijin had also drawn his weapon of choice; one Taven could see no usefulness in, dual bladed fans. They were not named but were a typical fan with barbed tips at the end of the fan and one from the centre of the fan. Taven himself opened his scroll and summoned forth his puppet. This puppet was used to barrage senbon onto the foe using Teijin’s wind to propel them faster. Riza would often move stealthily behind and finish the foe off from behind without them suspecting a thing.

Taven watched as Riza decapitated a training dummy and the sand it was covered with poured out quickly. She then said with a sigh and a rather bored expression, “I really wish we could have some actual competition here. This is too damn easy fighting just dummies when the Kazekage knows we are strong. It pisses me off!”

Teijin was quick to counter with a slight fury and anger in his voice “Riza mind your tongue. The great Kazekage does everything for a reason, you mustn’t question his ways.” Riza looked back ready to counter but decided it best not to.

Taven felt almost as if Teijin knew something he didn’t wish to tell his allies. Taven trusted Teijin enough not to do that and just shrugged it off. He made his puppet go back into the scroll positive little was needed to be done after this part. The proctor had told them they wouldn’t encounter much real danger. Taven cracked his knuckles as he sighed and awaited more combat or traps. This mission seemed too easy and it had him nervous and frightened.

A small explosion could be heard up ahead as Teijin quickly raised his guard and Riza’s face grew instantly excited. She knew that meant there was a complication in the mission and we would actually get to fight something. I remember the look on her face as she rushed to where it was. Teijin was furious and yelled after her but she ignored him. We quickly followed after only to find that she had been captured. Teijin was not about to lose both his comrades. He launched a strike of wind towards the ceiling and rocks fell down blocking Taven from entering “Taven leave now, we may not survive but you have to tell the Kazekage we were killed. Taven it’s your duty!”

Taven was worried he would never see his friends again and hesitated before leaving. He shook his head and wished for the best as he rushed back to Sunagakure trying to save enough time for reinforcements to arrive if needed. Taven had faith Teijin would be able to do this but Riza was caught and her combat skills were highly respected among the village. Taven entered the village and then it all went black. He knew he was regaining consciousness and was waking up.

{present}

Taven woke up and saw it still was not morning, he decided he was rested enough and sat up to meditate. He focused his breathing first to make that under control. He had just relived a terrible day he was in need of relaxing. Taven saw a few creatures scurry across the sand and he thought nothing of it. He felt the cool sand under his hands as he lay back, reclined and relaxed.

‘When is this going to end? When will I stop feeling this guilt that it is my fault they died? I wish Riza didn’t run off like that...maybe she would still be alive....” Taven thought about this for a good period of time giving a sigh as he knew that Teijin would have gone “for the duty of the village”. A lot of good the village had done, they’d refused to go in and help because they felt it was too late. Taven hated the previous Kazekage.

Taven sat down focusing his chakra around him as he set kunai around him. He focused solely on the kunai in an attempt to raise them off the ground. He felt wind spiral around him as it was picking up sand but not the kunai. ‘Come on a little more, come on’ Taven said to urge himself on. More sand began to blow around him as the kunai began to shake slightly.

Taven continued the pressure keeping it constant and focused as he felt one kunai lift from the ground and swirl around him. The kunai could be heard whizzing and Taven was moving his arms around himself as well to keep his chakra catching the wind. Two more of the five kunai lifted off the ground. Taven focused harder and the final kunai lifted off the ground. Taven then launched his hands foreword and the kunai shot out like rockets. Taven smiled, he knew he had finally done it. He was ready to try to lift himself.

Taven sat cross-legged his arms held out to either side of his body. He felt like he could do this. He focused his chakra beneath his body onto the sand below him. He focused hard on the sand and his body trying to generate enough force to lift himself up slightly. He tried with all his focus and all his chakra to do this one thing. He felt his body rock a small amount to the left and right but he knew he still had a ways to go.

Taven focused harder his body feeling lighter every time. He didn’t feel himself moving though. His eyes were closed to increase his focus but still there was no avail. He decided it was best for him to just give up. He was never going to master the wind element and he should be proud of what he had accomplished. He opened his eyes and was shocked at what he saw. He had lifted himself off the ground. ‘No way!!’ He screamed out in excitement. He lost his focus and fell to the soft sand but cared little because he had done it. He had mastered wind and was very proud of himself for doing so.

Taven stood up after he had finished his training to master the wind element. He was very happy he had managed to complete it with such huge success. He took out the edium sized fan that Teijin had left for him to one day combat Teijin in the wind area of combat. Taven held the fan up in the air examining the size and design of the weapon. He held it by the end and swung it as he felt a large amount of resistence. He decided to put a twist of his wind chakra onto the weapon.

Taven swung the weapon again and as he did he had chakra behind it to speed the swing up. At the furthest point of the swing Taven released the chakra and wind hurled foreward crashing into sand dunes. With its progression it picks up some broken wood Taven had left on the ground. Dirt and debris were hurling towards the sand and smashed into it. 'Fuusajin' (Dust Wind) Taven said as he performed his first ever jutsu.

Taven threw some kunai out into the air and he bursted some of his chakra into the air around him. As the chakra mixed itself with the air around him he saw the kunai would sit floating in the air. Taven was amazed by this and went to reach for anything that may have been holding it, but he saw nothing was there. He was doing it himself with just the wind. ‘This is amazing, how...how can this be possible? Can I really do this? Is this humanly possible?’

Taven saw the kunai fall to the ground as he lost his focus in his moment of distraction. He lifted the kunai into the air and threw it high towards the sun. As the kunai lifted high into the air Taven focused his chakra and burst wind from his fan. A small whirlwind caught under the kunai and it began to spin the kunai wildly in a concentrated circle. The kunai seemed like a spinning leaf falling, aside from the fact it was not moving down any. Taven looked up in amazement.

Taven gave a curt smirk as he wondered how many of these “spinning weapons” he could make. Taven threw up three more kunai and he blasted small whirlwinds under them. They began to rotate in the same concentrated pattern as the beginning one. ‘Oh man this is amazing! I love the power of the wind!!’ Taven as wondering what he could now do with these spinning delights.

Taven focused on the sand just in front of him and he made the wind move from below the kunai to behind it. The kunai burst forward spinning like drills with wind chakra spinning around the front as well. The kunai pierced the sand easily and dug deep into the sand as their holes were widened by the excessive wind behind them. The wind then burst from a lack of focus and sand showered down onto Taven. A look of shock and amazement was upon Taven’s face when he saw how he could easily harm a foe.

Taven looked around; he saw the scenery of a metal junk yard surrounding him. He picked up some scrap metal and took out some poison plants. Taven began to crush the plants in a bowl with a metal rod. This made a small poison liquid. Taven needed this liquid to become a powder, but first he applied it to the hidden blade in the tail of his puppet. Next Taven took the rattle off the tail and added the powdered poison into the rattle. It didn't take long to assemble it back on.

Taven has the jaws and tail blade made with the green poison and he needed to test this poison on himself now. He had to see how effective the poison would be and also what its effects are. He knew the plant itself when ingested gave hallucinations. He hoped in liquid form it wouldn't have diluted much. Taven cut himself with the tail blade and he felt himself go momentarily dizzy. When he caught his focus again he saw things that had not been there, or rather that had been moved. He saw his puppet was not smaller. Everything was altered, the poison was hallucinogenic.
