Adepts/Elementalists

Description: Elementalists and the users of the ability, known as Adepts, are essentially raised from birth to gain an affinity with a given scientific element. Some are naturally born with the talent, but most are raised from birth around the element. Founded by an Alchemist/Scientist in the distant past, the Elementalists hold only a fraction of the power of the founder, Alchemist Li Anping. Each Elementalist controls at least one element of the periodic table to some extent. Usually, each Elementalist trains his successor from birth, so as to maintain only one adept in each element at a given time. There are generally 3 classes of Adepts:

Class 1: Elementalists: THe most basic class of adept, elementalists control one element in the periodic table. Few Adepts exceed this level of skill, and they have their own hierarchy. Some who are talented enough, though, may be born with more than one talent or, while holding their own talent, also train in a second from birth, thus going up to the second level. Elementalists of the most abundant elements in the earth (Oxygen, Hydrogen and Nitrogen) are automatically upgraded to the second class.

Class 2: Transcendentalists: THe second class, Transcendentalists control up to 3 different elements or one of the Great Elements (Elements who make up a large part of the earth). Transcendentalists generally are held in high regard.

Class 3: Alchemist: While being called Alchemists, the term is a misnomer in that Alchemists do not control all the elements of a periodic table, only of a given area or of a given reaction (For example, the Crystal Alchemist can strengthen the structure of most elements, the Wood Alchemist controls organic reactions, etc.). They are generally named after something whose elements they can control (for example, somebody who can control Iron and Gold wouldn't call himself the Rose Shrub Alchemist).

Limitations: Adepts are ruled by several limitations, though, as in all sciences, there are limitations to those abilities.

Limitation #1: Adepts cannot manipulate elements they do not have. The Titanium Adept MUST CARRY a store of titanium with him in order to actually manipulate it. They cannot pull it from the Earth's Crust. There is a limitation to area of control.

Limitation #2: Adepts cannot manipulate elements they are not in contact with. Even if you were the Carbon Alchemist, it is impossible to manipulate the carbon in another being's cells. Similarly, while Hydrogen and Oxygen Adepts can manipulate these elements, they cannot manipulate the very air save for the immediate amounts around them or ingested in their bodies.
